In 2016, we partnered with the global IAFIE to host our first joint annual conference in the Netherlands. The event took place from 22 to 24 June at the historic Castle of Breda, which belongs to the Netherlands Defence Academy.
During the event, Professor Bob de Graaff, the Events Chair at IAFIE and the first President of IAFIE EC, made a significant announcement, declaring that from then on, the conference would become an annual event.
The theme of our 2016 conference, “Connecting Intelligence Education Communities: Europe, North America, and Beyond,” was chosen to stress the internationalization of IAFIE and the growing influence of intelligence studies, and intelligence education and training across the world. More than 150 participants from 16 countries and all five continents discussed a wide range of topics, including the reform of intelligence education, the need for new intelligence curricula, the development of new, innovative research programs, and the launching of new publishing opportunities.
