In April 2019, the "Mihai Viteazul" National Intelligence Academy co-organised the fourth edition of our Annual Conference in Bucharest, Romania.

The opening speeches were delivered by the President of IAFIE Europe, Professor Bob de Graaff, and the Deputy Director of the Romanian Intelligence Service, Brigadier General Cristian Bizadea. Their shared message emphasised the importance of good cooperation between academics and practitioners working in the field of intelligence.

The conference brought together over 100 participants from 25 countries, including representatives of many academic institutions, research centers, and institutes, as well as European intelligence services and security agencies. The conference was divided into 11 sections. In addition, it also featured a number of interactive, practical workshops specifically developed to meet the knowledge needs of the diverse audience.

Professor Ioannis Nomikos from the Greece-based Research Institute of European and American Studies (RIEAS) was awarded the IAFIE EC Excellence Award for his outstanding contributions to intelligence studies at the European and international levels.

The conference embraced a multidisciplinary approach. The discussions during the event explored relationships between different intelligence and non-intelligence-related disciplines as they delved into evolving trends, including innovative approaches to intelligence education and training. Beyond contributing to the expansion of knowledge, the event also represented a unique opportunity to strengthen collaboration between different stakeholders working in our field.
